Solar panels are expensive things, both in terms of money and the energy needed to produce them. Do they fit into a low-impact, permaculture lifestyle? How do they measure up against other sources of renewable energy? A good discussion on the subject, filmed at the Hampshire Green Fair 2011
Steward Community Woodland is a permaculture project which aims to demonstrate the value of integrating conservation woodland management techniques with organic growing, traditional skills and crafts and low-impact sustainable living in Dartmoor National Park. Last year, they received 5 year temporary planning permission to continue their experimental project. www.stewardwood.org This film is part of the 'Living in the Future' series www.livinginthefuture.org
Permaculture: The Growing Edge is an antidote to environmental despair, a hopeful and practical look at a path to a viable, flourishing future. The film introduces us to inspiring examples of projects, and includes a visit to David Holmgren's own homestead, tracking deer with naturalist Jon Young, sheet mulching an inner-city garden with Hunters Point Family, transforming an intersection into a gathering place with City Repair and joining mycologist Paul Stamets as he cleans up an oil spill with mushrooms. We interview some of the key figures in the permaculture movement, including David Holmgren, Penny Livingston-Stark, James Stark, Paul Stamets, Mark Lakeman, Dr. Elaine Ingham, Maddy Harland, and others. This is a trailer. The DVD is available to www.green-shopping.co.uk

AIM
To prove that permaculture techniques and biosphere research provide a new perspective for local organic food production in self-sustainable northern European cities.
ABSTRACT
When everything is connected, for better or worse, everything matters. Heightened levels of climate change, and pollution, and water and food shortages are the driving forces behind the new vision for self-sustaining cities. In the near future, cities will feed themselves using the currently available sunlight, not unlike the way forests do. Forest systems highlight the extreme possibilities that exist in densification, biodiversity, conservation and food production.
Designers' workshop - A weekend of permaculture design in practice
18th and 19th September 2010
Led by Angus Soutar
A short film about the Herbal Solstice event held at Birchfields Park, Manchester 2009. Rob Squires reports on the events happening during the day and interviews participants. The event was organised by Adele Myers for the Manchester Permaculture Network.
