For people who have completed their permaculture 72-hour design course and are thinking of going on to the diploma or just want to know more.
Led by Mark Fisher and Angus Soutar
Observation is a principal method in site surveys, and is as much an ability to absorb the reality of a location as it is the simple use of our primary senses.
We can approach the task of observation in a number of ways, each having the potential to reveal different information. From these, we build up the layers of our base mapping so that it can be applied to the design brief to achieve the outcomes required in the design.
The first part of the course will review the different approaches of non-selective, themed, and experiential observation through a mix of discussion and practical application.
The aim is to be able combine information gathered in these ways with the instrumental approach to observation that will be the surveying element of the course.
"Barefoot surveying" Angus Soutar. involves gathering information on a piece of land without the need for expensive instruments and formal training.
What will we do?
17/07/2010 Simple surveying and map-making, practical. More details.
22 August 2009: a day of low-tech surveying and simple site mapping at Stomehead Cottage near Lancaster. Led by Angus Soutar. For more details and bookings, click here.
