MPN monthly event Mon 30th - Permaculture from across the globe: Manchester meets El Salvador

Javascript is required to view this map.

For the past three years the Permaculture Association (Britain) has been supporting IPES - the Instituto Permacultura El Salvador. PAB has been working closely with IPES to channel £300,000 BIG Lottery funding into El Salvador, in order to improve the quality of life, and sustainability of rural communities in this country. Suzi High, PAB's International worker will be giving a talk and slides about the work that IPES has been carrying out.

In addition Suzi will be available to answer questions and talk about other aspects of international permaculture projects, including:

  • Marda in the West Bank, which is being supported by PAB, but is currently under threat;
  • Permaculture in Africa, including Strawberry fields which is also receiving the support of PAB;
  • Malawi, an east African nation with a very green agenda, which is set to host IPC9 - the next International Permaculture Convergence;
  • and the agenda to link activity in east Africa with West Africa, which is currently a permaculture 'desert'

Unicorn Grocery
Also within the last two years Unicorn, Chorlton's orgabic wholefood co-operative has donated £9,000 to El'Salvador, of funding that has been raised from customer sales. Members, investors, and customers at Unicorn will be able to find out from Suzi, how this money has been put to good use to develop permaculture in El Salvador. More information on Unicorn and IPES can be read here

Venue
The venue for the event is Hulme Hall, which is part of the Claremont Resource Centre building in Hulme. The Centre is on the corner of Rolls Cresent and Old Birley Street, behind the Junction pub, and next to Hulme Community Garden Centre. Click here for a map. The number 86 bus from the City Centre or Chorlton will drop you on Old Birley Street, very close to Hulme Hall. Alternatively the venue is within 10 minutes walk from Oxford Road, or GMEX tram station.

(Also please pretend that you are camping, and bring plastic plates, cups, knives, bottle / tin openers as deemed necessary, as we may not have access to the kitchen space in the Hall.)

* PLEASE NOTE: we will be taking a collection on the night, in order to cover Suzi's travel costs. Any extra £s collected will be donated to PAB *
